Better Fishing Company is a hands-on, family based operation owned by Gregg and Anne Best. They bring 35 years of experience to the table and specialize in live dungeness crab and spot prawn fisheries. They began fishing while living in the Queen Charlotte Islands fishing halibut, salmon and crab on their troller/longliner Hopefull.

Gregg has participated in fisheries management in an advisory capacity for many years. He was a member of the Halibut Advisory Board and served as a Canadian Commissioner to the International Halibut Commission for several terms. Gregg is a founding member of the Area A Crab Association, working closely with Archipelago Marine Research to introduce a cutting edge electronic monitoring program into the crab fishery in Hecate Stait.

Since moving to Vancouver Island, Gregg and Anne have focused their efforts on the crab and prawn fisheries. Gregg has been a caucus member of the Pacific Spot Prawn Fishermen’s Association and takes an innovative approach to providing high quality live and fresh product to both local and export markets.

The next step in the adventure is the development of a retail and wholesale outlet based in Cowichan Bay, BC. This winter will see the development and launch of the operation in the middle of this historic and scenic village. Cowichan Bay is the first location in North America to be declared a Slowfood Cita, supporting local food and artisans in the many shops of the village. We are also proud to serve seafood that meets the criteria of the Sea Choice program, offering sustainable and local seafood products.
